How do we determine if our gardens are real organic or not? That’s a great question. The best place to start to answer this is in your soil. You can start with a quick check list:
Is the compost, potting soil or fertilizers that I’m buying REAL Organic?
Am I using pesticides and herbicides?
Are the companies that I am buying products from to use in my garden REAL Organic?
Do the experts that I take advice from practice REAL Organic gardening protocols?
Is my garden getting more pollinators and birds singing as each year passes?
We know what you’re thinking… How am I supposed to know the answers to these questions and what is REAL Organic in the first place?
How you know if something is REAL Organic is to begin with the source. With regards to gardening products, you’ll want to answer very basic things like if the product is sourced from an organic farm, if it’s made with all organic inputs, if it’s non-GMO, if the animals were fed non-GMO crops that were not sprayed with glyphosate, or if the company has ties to any chemical or synthetic manufacturers. As far as the garden experts go, you’ll want to look at what their experience level is, do they use chemicals or synthetics in their recommendations, do the soil products they use contain recycled green waste or conventional animal manures, or if they are supported or funded by companies that have ties to Big CHEM, Big AG or Big WASTE.
Knowledge is power. The more you know about the products and advice you are putting into your garden, the more power you have over controlling the outcomes, the health and the safety of your garden and ultimately your family. REAL Organic gardens are healthier, safer, grow lusher, and are inline with the laws of nature in their well-being and growth cycles. It’s an easy thing to fix if your garden isn’t really organic. Do the quick check above and look for the products, protocols and people that can help you answer yes to the question of the moment, “Is your garden real organic?”
